Employee loyalty to Intrinsic Motivation…the new leadership model

A 30-year company veteran was retiring; the CEO planned the retirement party with the appropriate gold watch as a parting gift. At the party, after thanking him for his hard work, the CEO introduced the retiree. As the retiree walked to the stage he shook the CEO’s hand and said… you paid for my brain and body for 30 years and you could have had my heart for free.” This story personifies the impact our command and control business structure with authoritative leadership created. Today this type of leadership is just not good enough; people want to be inspired by authentic leaders in collaborative environments with a meaningful purpose. Today we need to shift from Employee Loyalty to Intrinsic Motivation.
